‘Internally Displaced Again’: Tinubu’s Aide Mocks El-Rufai Over SDP Expulsion

Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, has mocked Nasir El-Rufai after the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expelled him for 30 years.
Onanuga fired the jab on Monday, July 28, saying El-Rufai has been “internally displaced again.”
He mocked the former governor shortly after the SDP made its decision public.
Diaspora Digital Media reported that the SDP accused El-Rufai of parading himself as a member without officially joining the party.
He had claimed membership and promoted party activities on social media.
However, he failed to register at his ward a legal requirement for recognition.
The party said no credible record showed El-Rufai as a registered member in Kaduna State. It also accused him of using this false status to push his political interests.
According to the SDP’s National Working Committee, he tried to destabilize the party.
He allegedly did so at the national, state, and local levels.
The 30-year expulsion bars him from any association with the SDP until 2055.
The party urged members and the public to avoid engaging with him.
It also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of El-Rufai’s status.
According to the party, he should not be seen or treated as a member.
Onanuga’s comment stirred more reactions. His “internally displaced again” statement appeared to mock El-Rufai’s recent fallouts with several political parties.
El-Rufai had once held a strong position in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). But he later fell out with the party and moved closer to the opposition.
Many observers viewed his move to the SDP as a possible comeback strategy. That hope seems shattered with this latest expulsion.
El-Rufai now faces political isolation ahead of the 2027 elections. His opponents see the expulsion as a major setback.
The situation reflects deeper political tensions as new alliances and betrayals unfold across Nigeria’s political scene.
