The Iranian government has announced that it will suspend all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The decision follows military attacks on its nuclear facilities by Israel and the United States in recent days.
A senior Iranian official made the announcement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
“The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran will suspend its cooperation with the Agency until the security of nuclear facilities is guaranteed.
Meanwhile, we will accelerate the country’s peaceful nuclear programme.”
The development follows the Iranian parliament’s national security committee approval of a controversial bill.
This proposed law aims to halt the installation of surveillance cameras, inspections, and reporting to the IAEA.
Ebrahim Rezaei, the committee’s spokesperson, confirmed that the bill reflects growing domestic pressure on the government.
Many Iranian lawmakers and officials want to limit Iran’s obligations to international nuclear treaties.
Tensions have spiked after Israeli airstrikes and U.S. bombings targeted key Iranian nuclear infrastructure over the weekend.
The incidents have sparked outrage in Tehran and led to renewed debate about the country’s nuclear policy.
In a separate interview on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi spoke to Qatar-based Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
“Our view on the nuclear programme and the non-proliferation regime will witness changes, but it is not possible to say in what direction,” he said.
Iran maintains that its nuclear programme is peaceful.
However, recent statements and actions suggest a shift in tone and possibly strategy.
The IAEA has yet to formally respond.
But any loss of access to Iranian sites could raise major concerns among global powers and watchdogs.
As Iran moves forward, its decisions will be closely monitored by the United Nations, the European Union, and other signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal.
Many in the international community have urged Tehran to show restraint and avoid steps that could escalate tensions further.
