Banditry: Sokoto approves road construction to boost security

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of several soldiers following coordinated attacks by armed terrorists on multiple forward operating bases in Niger and Kaduna States.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the tragic incidents occurred on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when heavily armed bandits launched simultaneous offensives against army positions in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army described the attacks as a three-pronged assault by criminal elements who attempted to overrun the military outposts in those regions.

Despite being caught by surprise, the troops mounted a fierce resistance and were supported by both land and air components in coordinated counterattacks.

The army disclosed that these joint efforts led to the elimination of scores of the assailants during intense confrontations that lasted several hours.

However, the military acknowledged that the battles came at a high cost, as a number of their personnel paid the supreme price while defending their posts.

Additionally, four other soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the operations and are currently receiving medical treatment.

“On 24 June 2025, forward operating bases in the general areas of Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka, Niger State, and Aungwan Turai, Chikun LGA of Kaduna, were attacked by bandits in a three-pronged assault,” the Army stated.

“In response, land and air component troops launched several counterattacks that eliminated scores of bandits in the encounters.

“Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles, while four wounded-in-action troops are currently receiving treatment for their gunshot wounds,” the statement concluded.
