JUST IN: DSS Dismisses 115 Personnel

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed 115 personnel as part of an internal reform drive aimed at promoting discipline, professionalism, and integrity within the agency.

The secret police made this known on Tuesday in a statement shared on its official X handle, noting that the dismissals occurred over a period and were part of ongoing efforts to sanitize its ranks.

According to the DSS, the decision was necessary to uphold public trust and ensure accountability across all levels of the Service.

The statement also warned Nigerians to be cautious when dealing with individuals posing as DSS officials, stressing that some dismissed officers still present themselves as active operatives to defraud unsuspecting citizens.

“In addition to earlier disclaimers on the duo of Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, the Service finds it necessary to warn citizens of the fraudulent activities of some of these persons still posing as DSS personnel,” the statement read.

The DSS urged the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an operative before engaging in official dealings. It added that the names of all dismissed personnel have been published on the Service’s official website — www.dss.gov.ng — for transparency and reference.

The agency reaffirmed that the earlier-mentioned dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, have both been arrested and will face prosecution for alleged fraudulent activities conducted under false pretenses.

This latest dismissal is part of a broader reform agenda by the DSS leadership to strengthen operational discipline and eliminate misconduct among its ranks.

The move comes amid growing public scrutiny of Nigeria’s security agencies following reports of corruption, abuse of power, and procedural irregularities in recent months.

Security analysts believe the reform demonstrates the DSS’s attempt to rebuild public confidence and reposition itself as a credible intelligence institution committed to lawful operations.

The agency reiterated its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards, urging Nigerians to report any suspicious individuals claiming DSS affiliation through its verified communication channels.
