In a shocking incident on Monday night, unknown gunmen believed to be cultists attacked and killed Adeyinka Folarin, the Baasegun of the Itunsokun community in Ogun State. The assailants struck around 8 pm, targeting Folarin in his residence in Sagamu.

Two traditional rulers, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the tragic killing. One of them, while verifying the information, stated, “The information is correct, but I don’t have much information about the incident. We heard that the chief, who is a popular traditional chief and a member of the Akarigbo in-council, was killed last night. He is popularly called Baasegun; however, we can’t confirm if these are the people responsible for this terrible act. We leave the police and other security agencies to do their job.”

A source from Sagamu Local Government revealed that the incident prompted local government workers to hastily close for the day to avoid potential violence arising from the killing.

The source expressed the tense atmosphere in the town, saying, “Already, tension is very high in the town as I speak to you; workers are already moving out of the local government secretariat to avoid being caught in any form of crisis. Many are saying the man was killed by cultists, but no one could really confirm this; the information is still scanty now.”

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola, has been contacted for a reaction. As of now, there hasn’t been a response, and investigations into the incident are underway. The community awaits further information as security agencies work to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
