Justice for Ocheze: A Call To Action
The gruesome murder of Miss Vivian Munachi Ocheze Ogbonna, a Nigerian lady who worked as a crane operator at Inner Galaxy Steel Company in Abia State, has left us in shock and outrage.
The fact that she was pushed to her death by a Chinese expatriate, G.Z Zhen, who reportedly had earlier made sexual advances towards her, is a stark reminder of the toxic mix of patriarchy, xenophobia, and impunity that plagues our society.
What is even more appalling is the silence of the Abia State Government and the Federal Government in the face of this heinous crime.
Governor Otti’s failure to make a statement or take decisive action is a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people of Abia State.
The Nigeria Army’s shooting of protesters who were demanding justice for Ocheze is a stark reminder of the brutal force that is often unleashed on innocent citizens who dare to demand accountability.
We condemn in the strongest terms the murder of Ocheze and the silence of the authorities.
We demand that the Abia State Government and the Federal Government take immediate action to ensure that justice is served.
The Chinese expatriate who committed this crime must be brought to book and face the full weight of the law.
The Inner Galaxy Steel Company must also be held accountable for their role in enabling this tragedy.
We call on all Nigerians to rise up and demand justice for Ocheze.
We must reject the culture of impunity and silence that allows such crimes to go unpunished. We must stand in solidarity with the family and friends of Ocheze and demand that those responsible for her murder are brought to justice.
