KANO, Nigeria — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged residents of the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election, citing the president’s commitment to Kano’s development and national progress.

Governor Yusuf made the call on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, where he addressed party faithful and community leaders. He argued that President Tinubu has demonstrated a genuine commitment to addressing the challenges facing Kano and the nation at large, citing ongoing federal projects in the state as evidence of this commitment.

According to the governor, the Tinubu administration has prioritised the completion of critical infrastructure projects in Kano, including road construction, railway modernisation, and agricultural development initiatives. He noted that these projects have contributed to economic growth and improved the livelihoods of residents.

Yusuf also highlighted the administration’s efforts to address insecurity, improve healthcare delivery, and expand access to education, describing these as tangible achievements that warrant the support of Kano residents. He urged the people of Kano to reciprocate the president’s commitment by voting overwhelmingly for him in the 2027 election.

The governor’s endorsement of President Tinubu is significant given his political background. Yusuf, who is a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has maintained a working relationship with the federal government despite his party’s opposition status. His call for support for Tinubu is likely to generate debate within political circles, particularly as the 2027 election approaches.

The governor’s remarks come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, with various political parties and leaders positioning themselves for the contest. President Tinubu, who is expected to seek re-election, has been consolidating support across the country, including in traditionally opposition strongholds.
