(DDM) — As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, Nigerian diaspora leader Kenneth Chibuogwu Gbandi has sent a message of appreciation and encouragement to women across Nigeria and the global community, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping societies and strengthening democracy.

In his goodwill message marking the global celebration, Gbandi noted that the increasing global focus on women’s empowerment is not accidental. According to him, there is a growing international recognition that when women gain access to education, resources, leadership opportunities, and decision-making platforms, the benefits extend beyond individuals to entire communities and nations.

The former governorship candidate and diaspora advocate stressed that empowering women is key to national development, noting that societies that invest in women tend to experience stronger economic growth, improved governance, and more inclusive development.

Gbandi particularly highlighted Nigerian women, describing them as resilient, hardworking, and central to the country’s social and economic progress. He said the global community’s attention on Nigerian women as the world approaches the 100th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer reflects the growing acknowledgment of their influence and contributions.

According to him, women have consistently played pivotal roles in family stability, community leadership, entrepreneurship, education, and social advocacy across Nigeria and the diaspora.

He also used the opportunity to advocate for increased female participation in politics and governance. Quoting the phrase “No Woman, No Politics,” Gbandi explained that the slogan reflects the belief that women must not only participate in politics but also actively shape political decisions that affect national development.

He argued that excluding women from leadership positions deprives societies of valuable perspectives and innovative solutions needed to address modern challenges.

Across the world, International Women’s Day is observed annually to celebrate the achievements of women while also drawing attention to issues such as gender equality, economic empowerment, and political representation.

Over the years, global institutions, governments, civil society groups, and community leaders have used the occasion to renew commitments toward closing gender gaps in leadership and development.

In Nigeria, discussions around women’s political participation have remained prominent, particularly as advocates continue to push for greater representation in elected and appointed offices.

Gbandi stressed that women’s leadership is not merely symbolic but essential to building a balanced and progressive society.

He concluded his message by celebrating women around the world and encouraging continued efforts to create opportunities for them to thrive in leadership, governance, and national development.

“On their shoulders rests the hope of salvaging Nigeria,” he said while wishing women across the globe a happy International Women’s Day.
