Kwankwaso Alleges Plans by Lagos to Colonize Northern Nigeria
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. Has made a startling allegation that Lagos is planning to colonize the northern region of Nigeria. Kwankwaso made this claim during the convocation ceremony of Skyline University in Kano. Where he also expressed concerns about the economic crisis, insecurity, poverty, hunger, and diseases plaguing the North.
According to Kwankwaso, Lagos is interfering in the emirate affairs of Kano, trying to impose its own emir. Also collecting taxes from the North to Lagos. He emphasized that the North has been governed by useless leaders who have failed to develop the region, and now they’re looking for scapegoats.
Kwankwaso’s allegations have sparked heated debates, with some criticizing his statements as baseless and divisive. Others have pointed out that Lagos has been the powerhouse of Nigeria and that it’s time for the city to assert its influence.
Reactions to Kwankwaso’s Allegations
Some have argued that Kwankwaso’s claims are driven by arrogance and a sense of entitlement, stemming from the North’s historical dominance in Nigerian politics. Others have countered that Kwankwaso is speaking truth to power and highlighting the exploitation of the North by southern politicians.
Tax Reform Controversy
Kwankwaso’s allegations also touch on the contentious issue of tax reform. He claims that Lagos is collecting taxes from the North, while others argue that the tax reform is necessary to correct injustices in the system.
It has been reported by news men that Members of the National Assembly are currently divided over the controversial Tax Reform Bills introduced by President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
The President had, on September 3, transmitted four tax reform bills to the National Assembly for consideration.
The reforms stemmed from the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal and Tax Reforms headed by Taiwo Oyedele, for the review of existing tax laws.
The bills are the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, which is expected to provide the fiscal framework for taxation in the country, and the Tax Administration Bill, which will provide a clear and concise legal framework for all taxes in the country and reduce disputes.
The Way Forward
As the debate rages on, it’s essential to consider the implications of Kwankwaso’s allegations and the reactions they have sparked. Nigeria’s regional tensions and economic disparities require thoughtful leadership and constructive dialogue. Kwankwaso’s claims have ignited a crucial conversation about the country’s future and the need for equitable development.
In conclusion, Kwankwaso’s allegations have added fuel to the fire of Nigeria’s regional tensions. While some see his claims as baseless, others view them as a call to action. As Nigeria navigates its complex political landscape, it’s crucial to prioritize unity, equity, and development for all regions.
