Labour Party: Police Recommend Julius Abure’s Arraignment in Court Over Alleged Forgery
Julius Abure, the embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has been implicated in another case of forgery in Ebonyi State, less than 48 hours after he was detained, arrested, and freed by the police on suspicion of forging the signature of a candidate for governor in Plateau State’s 2023 election.
In a police-filed petition, Splendour Oko-Eze, a former chairman of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, claimed that Abure had falsified his signature on a document stating that Eze had resigned from his position as the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Ebonyi State in favor of Edward Nkwegu.
After the Deputy Inspector General of Police’s office received a petition, the case was assigned to the Force Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) for further investigation. It is said that during this inquiry, Nkwegu acknowledged having paid Abure N200 million in order to obtain the governorship ticket for Ebonyi State.
Following its investigation, the FCID has advised the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) that Abure be charged with forgery.
It was said on Tuesday that Abure was detained and arrested by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command agents on Monday due to suspected fraud connected to the party’s Plateau State gubernatorial primary.
In a criminal complaint filed with the police, Yohanna Margif, an LP candidate for governor of Plateau State in 2023, claimed that Abure had falsified his signature on a letter claiming to be his withdrawal from the governorship primary.
Remember that in a similar situation, Murphy Imasuen, an LP candidate for the House of Representatives in Edo State’s Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde federal district in the general election of 2023, had charged Abure with faking his signatur
