LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Accord Party in Lagos State has officially unveiled its governorship and senatorial candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, marking a key step in its preparations for the upcoming political contest.
The unveiling ceremony featured party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters who gathered to present the candidates as the party’s standard-bearers for both state and national legislative positions. The leadership described the event as a demonstration of readiness and internal cohesion ahead of the polls.
Party officials stated that the selection of candidates followed due internal democratic processes, aimed at ensuring that individuals with credibility, experience, and commitment to public service were chosen to represent the party.
According to the Lagos Accord leadership, the candidates were selected based on their track records in governance, private sector experience, and community engagement, which the party believes will strengthen its competitiveness in the 2027 elections.
The party used the occasion to outline its broader political vision for Lagos State, promising to focus on issues such as economic development, job creation, improved infrastructure, and social welfare if elected into office.
Speakers at the event emphasised the need for issue-based campaigns, urging voters to consider competence and policy proposals rather than political sentiments or party dominance. They also expressed confidence that the Accord Party could provide a viable alternative to the dominant political forces in the state.
The governorship candidate, in his acceptance remarks, pledged to run an inclusive campaign that would engage youths, professionals, and grassroots communities across Lagos State. He also promised to prioritise transparency, accountability, and people-centred governance if elected.
Senatorial candidates under the party’s platform also expressed commitment to representing their districts effectively, focusing on legislative reforms that would address economic challenges and improve public services.
Political analysts note that while the Accord Party is not traditionally among the dominant political parties in Lagos, its latest move reflects a broader trend of smaller parties seeking to expand their visibility and influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Observers say the success of such parties often depends on strong grassroots mobilisation, candidate popularity, and the ability to present clear policy alternatives to voters.
The party concluded the event with a call for unity among members and supporters, urging them to begin early mobilisation efforts as the political season gradually builds momentum toward 2027.
