ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that Nigeria will not yield to terrorism, banditry, or other forms of violent crime, declaring that his administration remains firmly committed to restoring peace, security, and national stability across the country.
The President made the declaration during his Democracy Day address, where he reflected on Nigeria’s democratic journey and the challenges confronting the nation, particularly insecurity and economic hardship.
Tinubu said despite ongoing security threats in parts of the country, the federal government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the capacity of security agencies and improve coordination in counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations. He maintained that the nation’s resilience would not be broken by criminal elements seeking to destabilise communities.
He noted that security remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that significant investments are being made in intelligence gathering, military operations, and community-based security initiatives aimed at addressing threats in both urban and rural areas.
The President also acknowledged the economic difficulties facing citizens, attributing them to ongoing reforms designed to stabilise the economy in the long term. He assured Nigerians that the reforms are beginning to show positive indicators and will ultimately lead to sustainable growth.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain patient and united, emphasizing that democracy requires collective effort and sacrifice to achieve lasting progress. He also called on citizens to support government initiatives aimed at strengthening institutions and promoting national development.
According to him, Nigeria’s democratic system has endured significant challenges over the years but continues to stand as a symbol of national unity and resilience. He praised citizens for their commitment to democratic values since the country’s return to civilian rule.
The President further highlighted ongoing security operations across various regions, noting that the armed forces and other security agencies are working tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks responsible for violence and instability.
He assured that his administration would not relent until peace is restored across all affected regions, reiterating that criminal groups would continue to face decisive action from security forces.
Political observers say the Democracy Day address reflects the government’s attempt to reassure citizens amid persistent concerns over insecurity and economic pressure, while also reinforcing confidence in ongoing reforms.
As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, the President’s message focused on resilience, national unity, and the determination to overcome the country’s security and economic challenges.
