Lagos, Netherlands Strengthen Partnership on Coastal Zone Management

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to effective coastal zone management, partnering with the Netherlands to explore innovative solutions for sustainable development and water management.
Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Alebiosu, received a delegation from the Netherlands, led by Consular-General Michel Deelen, to discuss potential collaboration in coastal protection and sustainable development.
The meeting built on previous discussions, focusing on opportunities for cooperation in water management, coastal protection, and sustainable development.
Alebiosu expressed hope that the partnership would boost coastal zone management in Lagos, addressing challenges like erosion and flooding.
He highlighted the state’s efforts to support coastal communities, acknowledging the need for mitigation measures despite the natural occurrence of erosion.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of reclamation and protection of vulnerable villages, noting that while expensive, these measures are priorities.
The partnership aims to leverage cost-effective technologies from Netherlands and other countries to address these challenges.
