LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing live ammunition to the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Nigeria, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai has confirmed.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Fatai disclosed that Alebiosu reported the incident to the police on May 7, 2026, after his security guard received a suspicious parcel at his Lagos residence. The parcel was addressed to the bank chief and delivered to his personal residence in the highbrow Ikoyi area of the state.
“The commissioner of police has ordered the Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau to investigate this case thoroughly, identify the sender, and bring them to justice. This is a serious security breach, and we are leaving no stone unturned in our investigation,” Fatai said. He described the delivery as a “sophisticated attempt to intimidate a prominent citizen and corporate leader.”
The police commissioner stressed that the investigation would explore whether the incident was linked to any ongoing disputes or threats against the bank’s chief executive. Fatai confirmed that forensic analysis was being conducted to determine the origin of the ammunition and any possible fingerprints or DNA on the parcel.
In a separate development, the police boss announced the arrest of six suspects in connection with a robbery attack at the Heritage Bank headquarters in Lagos, following a high-profile heist that led to the death of two security guards. The gang was reported to have carted away an undisclosed sum after breaking into the bank’s vault.
Alebiosu is a seasoned banker who was appointed Group Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria in April 2024, following the resignation of Adesola Adeduntan. Before his appointment, Alebiosu served as the bank’s chief risk officer. In January 2025, FirstBank Holdings appointed Alebiosu as non-executive director.
The Lagos State Police Command has not released further details, but has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and security in the state. A full report is expected to be submitted to the Inspector-General of Police upon the conclusion of investigations. The command has urged anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station.
