LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Task Force has issued a 72-hour quit notice to street traders and illegal occupants along the Alaba Rago, Mile 2–Badagry Expressway, with enforcement operations set to commence after the deadline expires.
The directive, announced on Tuesday, is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to restore order and ensure the safety of lives and property along major roads and highways. The Task Force warned that anyone found violating the order after the expiration of the notice would face arrest and prosecution.
The areas affected include Alaba Rago, a bustling commercial hub known for its concentration of traders and market activities. The Task Force noted that illegal trading and encroachments along the expressway have contributed to traffic congestion, environmental degradation, and security concerns in the area.
The agency urged traders to relocate to designated markets and trading zones to avoid disruption to their businesses and to comply with state laws. The Task Force also advised motorists and commuters to cooperate with enforcement officials to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.
The move is the latest in a series of enforcement actions by the Lagos State Government to address the challenges posed by street trading and illegal occupation of public spaces. In recent months, the government has intensified efforts to clear major roads and highways of obstructions to improve traffic flow and enhance public safety.
