Kano Police arrested three suspects for poisoning, stabbing man to death

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 32-year-old man, Dahiru Musa, over ownership of a land.

This was confirmed by the police command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement dated October 10, 2024, and made available to newsmen.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on September 29, 2024, in Dorayi Quarters, Kano.

The suspects allegedly lured Musa under false pretenses and poisoned him following a dispute over land ownership.

They later burned his body in a bid to destroy any evidence.

Haruna disclosed that the three suspects, Aliyu Adamu, 22, Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20, and Sadiq Sunusi, 19, are all in police custody.

“On September 29, 2024, at about 7:30 p.m., a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, lodged a complaint that his brother, Dahiru Musa, had gone missing for some days now.

“He expressed strong suspicions regarding Aliyu Adamu, 22, of Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, who was the last person in contact with the deceased,” Haruna explained.

The confession

Following the report, detectives swiftly moved into action and apprehended Adamu the next day.

Adamu confessed to conspiring with his friend, Mubarak Abdulsalam, to lure Musa to his house under the pretext of discussing a land deal.

“They offered him poisoned food, and when he became unconscious, they stabbed him to death.

“The body was wrapped in a sack and dumped in an uncompleted building near Adamu’s residence,” Haruna explained.

Musa’s land document as motive behind the crime

According to the police, the motive behind the murder was to seize Musa’s land properties.

Adamu had reportedly obtained Musa’s land documents and planned to claim the property after killing him.

The investigation further revealed that after Adamu’s arrest, Abdulsalam conspired with another accomplice, Sadiq Sunusi.

The duo burned Musa’s body with petrol in an attempt to destroy any remaining evidence.

The charred remains were later recovered and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for autopsy.

Commissioner of Police reacts

The Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, praised the public for their role in providing vital information that led to the arrests of the killer’s.

He also advised residents to remain vigilant, especially when conducting transactions in unfamiliar or secluded locations within the area’s .

“We commend the public for their cooperation and assistance in this case,” Garba said. “People must exercise caution when conducting business with individuals they do not fully trust, particularly in isolated areas.”

The three suspects remain in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, and will be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.

IGP Egbetokun approves ₦10m to families of 5 dead Kano officers

In another development, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved ₦10 million compensation to the families of five officers who lost their lives in a road mishap.

The officers were returning from Edo governorship election in September when the incident occurred at Karfi, Kura LGA of Kano State.

Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said eight of the injured officers had been discharged, while three are still in hospital.

“In response to this tragic event, the Inspector General of Police has taken decisive actions to provide support to those affected, by approving the compensatory payment of ten million Naira (N10,000,000) to the families of the deceased,” the statement reads.

Adejobi said Egbetokun also approved the immediate payment of N2 million each to those still in hospital, and N500,000 to those who had been discharged.

“He acknowledged their profound loss and providing assistance as they navigate this challenging period.

“The IGP has also approved the payment of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) to those still receiving treatment, ensuring they receive the necessary medical support as they recuperate, and the sum of five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) to those who have been discharged after treatment,” he added.
