The Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in Libya’s Southern Region, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has successfully repatriated 163 Nigerian migrants, including vulnerable women and children.

The group departed from Sabha International Airport, marking a crucial step in addressing the complex issues surrounding illegal migration in the region.

This repatriation effort is part of a broader strategy to manage migration challenges in Libya, a critical transit point for migrants seeking to reach Europe.

The IOM has been working closely with Libya authorities to facilitate the safe return of migrants who often face harsh conditions in detention centers.

This collaborative effort demonstrates a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of migrants, particularly vulnerable women and children.

The repatriation process was facilitated by Migrant Rescue Watch, which announced the successful operation on Tuesday.

The organization highlighted the ongoing efforts to manage and mitigate the complex issues surrounding illegal migration, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration and support.

The 163 Nigerian migrants, including women and children, were provided with necessary assistance and support during the repatriation process.

This includes medical care, food, and shelter, as well as counseling services to address the trauma and stress associated with their experiences.

The successful repatriation of these migrants marks a positive step towards addressing the complexities of migration in the region.

As efforts continue to manage and mitigate illegal migration, it is essential to prioritize the safety, dignity, and human rights of all individuals involved.

The Libyan government, in collaboration with international organizations and stakeholders, must continue to work towards addressing the root causes of migration, providing adequate protection and support for migrants, and ensuring that their rights and dignity are respected and protected.
