Liverpool Lead Race As PSG Winger Eyes Summer Exit

Share this:

PARIS, FRANCE — Liverpool have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Ibrahim Mbaye as the young winger considers leaving Paris Saint-Germain in search of regular playing time.

The 18-year-old Senegal international, who also holds French nationality, is attracting growing interest ahead of the summer transfer window after struggling to secure consistent minutes in PSG’s star-studded squad.

Mbaye has featured sparingly in Ligue 1 this season, accumulating limited playing time as competition for attacking positions continues to restrict opportunities for emerging talents at the club.

Despite the challenges, the winger has shown flashes of quality both at club level and on the international stage, where he has already scored three goals in ten appearances for Senegal.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Liverpool are leading the pursuit, with the Premier League side viewing Mbaye as a long-term investment capable of strengthening their attacking options.

The club’s recruitment strategy has increasingly focused on young, high-potential players, making Mbaye a strong fit for their evolving squad profile.

However, Liverpool are not alone in the race, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa reportedly considering formal approaches for the winger.

Additional interest has also been linked to Manchester City, West Ham United, and Brighton & Hove Albion, further intensifying competition for his signature.

Mbaye remains under contract at PSG until 2028, giving the French club significant control over his immediate future, but the lack of regular playing time has reportedly made him more open to exploring new opportunities.

For PSG, the situation presents a difficult balance between retaining a promising young talent and managing squad depth in a team filled with established stars.

The winger is currently valued at around €30 million, and a potential sale could provide financial flexibility while easing congestion in attacking areas.

However, there is also the risk that Mbaye could develop into a top-level player elsewhere, a scenario PSG will be keen to avoid.

As the summer transfer window approaches, attention is expected to intensify around Mbaye’s future, with Premier League clubs closely monitoring developments and preparing possible moves.

The coming weeks could prove decisive as the player weighs his options between staying to fight for opportunities in Paris or seeking regular football in England’s top flight.
