Manchester City has agreed to sell striker Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a staggering £82m, representing a significant profit on the £14m they spent on the Argentine forward in January 2022.

The deal, which includes £64m upfront and add-ons, is set to be a record sale for City.

Alvarez, who has made 103 appearances for City, scoring 36 goals, has won numerous titles, including two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

He also won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and the Copa America earlier this year.

The transfer is expected to have an impact on Chelsea’s deal for Atletico striker Samu Omorodion, which hinges on Atletico finding a replacement.

Conor Gallagher is also in talks to join Atletico as part of the negotiations.

The summer transfer window closes on August 30 at 11 pm UK time.

Who is Alvarez?

The Argentine forward burst onto the scene with River Plate, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess and earning a move to Manchester City in January 2022.

At just £14m, Alvarez proved to be a shrewd signing, quickly integrating into the City squad and contributing to their domestic and continental successes.

Alvarez’s two-and-a-half-year stint at Manchester City was marked by impressive performances, as he netted 36 goals in 103 appearances.

His ability to score crucial goals and provide creative spark off the bench made him a valuable asset to Pep Guardiola’s team.

Alvarez’s trophy cabinet swelled during his time at City, with two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup all added to his collection.

As Alvarez prepares to embark on a new chapter with Atletico Madrid, following a reported £82m transfer, fans and pundits alike eagerly anticipate his next move.

With his proven track record and continued growth, Alvarez is poised to become one of the most feared strikers in La Liga.
