Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Wednesday claimed responsibility for a missile attack on a Saudi oil tanker off the coast of Yanbu, a major Saudi port on the Red Sea.
The group’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, announced the attack but did not say when it occurred or provide further details about the vessel or the extent of the damage.
Saudi authorities had not commented on the claim at the time of filing this report.
The latest claim comes as tensions remain high across the Middle East, with the Houthis continuing attacks on shipping in the Red Sea amid the wider regional conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
The Red Sea is one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, and repeated attacks on commercial vessels have disrupted global trade and heightened security concerns in the region.
