The Niger State government has announced the rescue of seven Chinese men abducted by terrorists during an attack on a mining site in Ajata-Aboki, Shiroro LGA of the state after about six months in captivity.

The Chinese were kidnapped on June 29, 2022 when insurgents in their hundreds attacked the mining site during which many soldiers and riot policemen were killed.

The state commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar, who announced this in a statement in Minna, the state capital, said the rescue operation was undertaken by the Nigeria Air Force (NAF).

Umar said Governor Abubakar Sani Bello had commended the commander and men of the 271 NAF Detachment for the success of the operation.

He added that the state government had continued to collaborate with security forces in the state in ensuring citizens were safe and secure.

“Finally, Governor Bello felicitates the victims, their families, friends and associates for their safe rescue and wishes them well,” the statement also said.
