Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The controversy began after Akpoti-Uduaghan submitted a formal petition accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office.

Breaking his silence, Akpabio addressed the Senate as lawmakers resumed plenary after a week-long recess.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that he dismissed the sexual allegations, insisting he had never harassed any woman throughout his political or personal life.

“At no time did I ever harass any woman,” Akpabio stated while addressing the Senate.

He emphasized that he was raised by a single mother who taught him to respect women.

Akpabio also reminded senators that he was previously awarded as Nigeria’s most gender-friendly governor.

He revealed that since February 25, he had been overwhelmed with calls and messages regarding the sexual harassment allegations.

Social media has been buzzing with heated debates about the sexual claims against the Senate President.

Akpabio urged Nigerians and journalists not to jump to conclusions but to allow the court to determine the truth.

Just moments after his statement, Akpoti-Uduaghan took the floor, citing Order 40 of the Senate Rules.

She formally submitted a petition, accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment and requesting permission to present her case before the Senate.

The Senate referred the sexual harassment petition to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct.

The committee has been directed to investigate and report its findings as soon as possible.

The dispute between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan began in February over a seating arrangement disagreement.

The issue escalated into a confrontation that later led to the sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President.

During plenary, Akpoti-Uduaghan took her new seat but refused to stand when Akpabio entered the chamber.

This was a notable departure from the tradition of senators rising to acknowledge the presiding officer.

Her action reportedly upset Akpabio, worsening the already tense relationship between them.

The sexual allegations have sparked mixed reactions within and outside the Senate.

Some lawmakers insist the matter requires an impartial investigation due to the seriousness of the accusations.

Others believe the allegations may be politically motivated to damage Akpabio’s reputation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan maintains that her complaint is genuine and not driven by political interests.

She insists that sexual harassment must be addressed, especially within the nation’s highest legislative institution.

Supporters of Akpabio argue that the allegations are an attempt to discredit his leadership.

They point to his long-standing reputation and past recognition for promoting gender inclusivity.

The case has reignited discussions about sexual harassment in Nigerian politics and governance.

Advocacy groups have called for transparency in handling the allegations against Akpabio.

Activists believe this case should push for stronger policies protecting women from sexual misconduct in politics.

The Senate committee is expected to begin reviewing the sexual harassment petition in the coming days.

The investigation’s outcome could impact both Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan’s political futures.

Many Nigerians are closely watching how the Senate will handle the sensitive allegations.

The case could influence public confidence in the Nigerian legislative process.

The next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether Akpabio is cleared or faces further action.

Regardless of the outcome, the Natasha sexual allegation has already sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape.
