The Labour Party faction led by Nenadi Usman has unveiled governance expert and policy strategist Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Okereke’s emergence was ratified on Saturday in Abuja following what party leaders described as a broad consensus among members and key stakeholders.
Announcing the decision, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said Okereke was chosen based on his track record in public policy, governance and institutional development.
According to the party, the presidential candidate has built a strong reputation as an advocate for democratic reforms and accountable governance.
Okereke currently serves as President of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a policy and legislative research organisation. He also works as a legislative consultant to several committees and ranking lawmakers in the National Assembly.
Beyond his policy engagements, he lectures in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University, Abuja, where he contributes to training future public sector professionals and policy experts.
The party noted that Okereke’s expertise in governance, public accountability and national development has earned him recognition as a respected analyst on national and international media platforms.
A holder of a doctorate degree in Legislative Governance Studies, Okereke also earned master’s degrees in Public Administration and Legislative Studies with distinction.
Labour Party leaders described him as a candidate whose experience, academic background and commitment to national development align with the party’s vision for Nigeria.
They added that his emergence reflects the party’s desire to present what it called a competent, accountable and transformational leadership option to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement comes as political parties continue to position themselves for the next general election, with several opposition groups already unveiling presidential candidates and building alliances across the country.
