Nigeria gets new Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025.
Ogunjimi’s appointment comes after a rigorous selection process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.
Babatunde Ogunjimi, 57, is a seasoned accountant with an impressive background.
Born on August 12, 1967, in Lagos State, Ogunjimi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 1990.
He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos, which he obtained in 2001.
Ogunjimi’s professional career spans over three decades, with extensive experience in financial management, accounting, and auditing.
He began his career in 1992 as an Accountant with the Federal Ministry of Finance, where he worked for over a decade.
During his tenure at the Ministry, Ogunjimi was involved in several key projects, including the development of the Federal Government’s financial management systems and the implementation of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
In 2003, Ogunjimi joined the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, where he served in various capacities, including Director of Accounts and Director of Finance.
As Director of Accounts, Ogunjimi was responsible for the management of the Federal Government’s accounts, including the preparation of the annual budget and financial statements.
He also played a key role in the implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and the Treasury Single Account (TSA) initiative.
Throughout his career, Ogunjimi has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, professionalism, and dedication to public service.
He has attended several professional courses and training programs, both locally and internationally, to enhance his skills and knowledge.
Ogunjimi is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
As the new Accountant General of the Federation, Ogunjimi will succeed the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire on March 7, 2025.
President Tinubu has urged Ogunjimi to discharge his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service.
