Nigerian Troops Neutralize 197 Terrorists, Apprehend 310 In One Week

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism, with troops neutralizing 197 terrorists and apprehending 310 others across various theatres of operation in the past week.

According to the DHQ, troops deployed in the North East, North Central, and North West regions achieved the feat, with the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.

In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized 83 terrorists, arrested 71 suspects, and rescued 48 hostages. In the North Central, Operation Safe Haven troops neutralized 11 insurgents, arrested 64 violent extremists, and rescued 21 hostages.

In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji troops neutralized 65 terrorists, arrested 80 terrorists, and rescued 54 hostages. Operation Whirl Stroke troops also neutralized six terrorists, arrested 20 violent extremists, and rescued 36 hostages.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, briefed newsmen on the operations, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts between the government and locals to combat terrorism.

He acknowledged the loss of nine personnel in the past month, highlighting the challenges and sacrifices made by the military in the fight against terrorism.

The announcement comes as the military continues to intensify operations against terrorist groups in the country.
