Nine people, according to Ukraine officials, have been killed after a Russian drone hit a bus transporting workers in Ukraine on Wednesday, April 22, 2025.

The victims were reportedly workers commuting to a local factory.

BBC reports that the attack occurred on Wednesday morning in the south-central city of Marhanets.

This attack is reportedly part of a broader series of Russian drone assaults across eastern, southern, and central Ukraine.

Homes have been reportedly damaged homes.

So also were businesses and infrastructure in areas such as Poltava, Odesa, and Kharkiv.

Serhiy Lysak, regional chief of Dnipropetrovsk, said at least 30 people were injured, adding that “the number of victims is constantly growing”.

Local media reports that while Ukraine’s air defense systems intercepted several incoming drones, the full extent of the damage remains under assessment .

The attack comes as officials from the UK, France, Germany, the US and Ukraine are preparing to hold talks in London.

The talks are aimed at securing a ceasefire in the conflict.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people have been killed or injured on all sides since then.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had declared a 30-hour ceasefire for Easter Sunday.

Ukraine had said it would mirror Russia’s actions. Each side accused the other of breaking the truce.

Last month, Moscow came up with a long list of conditions in response to a full ceasefire that had been agreed by the US and Ukraine.

The US has been holding talks with Russia and separately with Ukrainian and European officials to broker a truce.

In response to these escalating attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed a willingness to negotiate a ceasefire.

This is contingent upon Russia’s commitment to halt strikes on civilian infrastructure.

However, the proposed peace framework, has been met with resistance from Ukrainian officials.

The framework is said to include recognizing Russian-occupied territories and potentially vetoing Ukraine’s NATO membership.

Critics believe this incident underscores the ongoing targeting of civilian areas by Russian forces.

According to them, this is reminiscent of previous attacks such as the missile strike in Sumy on Palm Sunday, which resulted in 35 deaths and 129 injuries .
