In a significant move to boost domestic gas utilization, NNPC Ltd. and its partners launched five Mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants.
This event took place in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment for the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony signifies the start of construction for the facilities.
Collectively, they will have a capacity of 97 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscf/d).
The five plants—NNPC Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete—showcase a collaborative effort.
This partnership involves NNPC Ltd. working alongside various private investors to enhance the LNG sector.
NNPC Ltd. holds a significant stake in three plants: 90% in Prime LNG, 50% in NGML/Gasnexus LNG, and 10% in BUA LNG.
Meanwhile, independent companies are developing Highland LNG and LNG Arete, showcasing a diverse investment landscape.
Additionally, these projects highlight the growing interest and opportunities in the energy sector.
The launch of Mini-LNG facilities supports the Federal Government’s Gas Revolution Agenda, promoting economic growth through Nigeria’s natural gas resources.
During the ceremony, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., emphasized the vital role of natural gas in fostering industrialization.
Moreover, he underscored its significance for job creation and economic diversification, thereby illustrating its potential advantages.
Kyari stated, “These Mini LNG facilities will effectively transport gas over long distances, providing a cleaner, more affordable energy source.”
