‘No single candidate can ever defeat Ahmed Tinubu in 2027’ -Kenneth Okonkwo

How possible is this?

Former Labour Party spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has said no single candidate can oust President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Okonkwo made this remark on Sunday while speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Nigeria programme.

The Nollywood actor stressed that defeating Tinubu would require a coalition of opposition political forces across the country.

He explained that Nigeria’s political atmosphere has changed, making individual presidential bids difficult against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Okonkwo, “No one candidate can defeat Tinubu. A coalition is the only option for the opposition to succeed.”

He further emphasised that winning elections in Nigeria now requires more than just popular votes from citizens.

“You must win and also secure your victory by gaining support from the elite class,” Okonkwo stated during the interview.

Okonkwo warned that contesting against Tinubu without a coalition would hand him an easy re-election victory.

He said, “going solo into 2027 is like giving Tinubu victory on a platter of gold.”

When asked if Tinubu could be beaten without a formidable coalition, Okonkwo simply responded, “Outrightly, no.”

The actor said Nigerian politics had become a battlefield where political security mattered just as much as electoral success.

He noted that even with massive votes from the people, elite support is crucial to sustain any election victory.

Speaking on possible alliances, Okonkwo could not confirm a merger between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

However, he expressed strong belief that a political coalition would emerge before the 2027 general elections.

He added that historical political changes in Nigeria often appeared impossible until they eventually happened.

Okonkwo insisted that the opposition must urgently forge a united front if they intend to wrest power from APC.

“The opposition must come together, otherwise, Tinubu will remain unbeatable,” Okonkwo concluded during the live programme.

Observers believe that his comments reflect growing concerns over the opposition’s preparedness ahead of 2027 elections.

Already, talks of coalition have surfaced among opposition leaders, though no formal agreements have been announced.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has continued to consolidate power ahead of his second-term bid, political analysts observed.

The 2027 general elections are expected to be fiercely contested if opposition parties align forces against the APC.
