ABUJA — Matchday 35 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set to deliver decisive outcomes this weekend, with high-stakes fixtures expected to reshape both the title race and relegation battle.

The upcoming round of matches comes at a critical stage of the season, with clubs fighting for survival, continental qualification, and the league title.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that top contenders like Rivers United and Enugu Rangers remain firmly in the title race, while traditional heavyweights such as Enyimba, Kano Pillars, and Remo Stars find themselves battling to maintain top-flight status.

In one of the standout fixtures, Remo Stars will host Niger Tornadoes in a must-win encounter as the defending champions struggle near the relegation zone.

The Ikenne-based side, currently sitting 19th, face a dramatic fall from grace after winning the league title last season, and must secure maximum points to keep survival hopes alive.

Another crucial clash will see Kano Pillars take on table-toppers Rivers United in Kano, with both teams fighting for very different objectives.

While Rivers United aim to extend their lead at the top, Pillars must avoid defeat to stay clear of the relegation zone.

The highly anticipated “Oriental derby” between Enugu Rangers and Enyimba is also expected to produce fireworks, given the historic rivalry between both sides.

Rangers, currently second on the table, are pushing for the title, while Enyimba seek consistency after an inconsistent campaign.

Elsewhere, Wikki Tourists face Bendel Insurance in a relegation battle, with Tourists desperate to escape the bottom four, while Insurance look to strengthen their top-half position.

Plateau United will host Kun Khalifat in a fixture that pits mid-table stability against a struggling side fighting to avoid relegation.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors will take on Shooting Stars (3SC) in a clash that could influence both teams’ hopes of finishing in the top half.

Kwara United will also face Barau FC in a must-win encounter, with the Ilorin-based club aiming to move away from the relegation zone after a difficult campaign.

Katsina United will host Bayelsa United in another key fixture, with both teams looking to bounce back from recent defeats and improve their standings.

Abia Warriors and Ikorodu City will battle for continental qualification positions, with both sides currently among the top contenders for a top-four finish.

In another encounter, Nasarawa United will face Warri Wolves as both teams attempt to recover from disappointing results in their previous matches.

Observers say the outcome of Matchday 35 could significantly shape the final stretch of the season, particularly in determining which clubs remain in the top flight and which secure continental football.

With only a few matches left before the end of the campaign, every point is now crucial, setting the stage for an intense and unpredictable weekend across Nigerian football.
