NSF: Oyo win gold, silver in 49kg men’s para-powerlifting

Team Oyo, on Saturday, won gold and silver in 49kg men’s Para-powerlifting at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged ‘Edo 2020’ in Benin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yakubu Adesokan defeated his fellow Oyo counterpart, Olabode Mimololu, to win their state gold and silver, while Badamasi Muhammed clinched the bronze medal for Delta in the men’s 49kg para-powerlifting.

Beaming with smiles, the gold medalist, Adesokan, told NAN that he was grateful to God for the victory, which he dedicated to the people of Oyo State.

“The people of Oyo State need this win; my winning gold will further motivate me for the paralympic games, which I am preparing for, hoping for God’s help and support.

“I use this medium to call on people with disability not to despair but embrace sports and become better persons to themselves and the society,” he said.

Mimololu, who expressed happiness over his silver medal, said it was an improvement over his first NSF outing in 2018, in Abuja.

He called on relevant authorities to collaborate with government at all levels in the sponsorship of sporting activities, to further attract youths away from social vices. (NAN)
