NYSC: FG lifts restrictions on PPA posting
The Federal Government (FG) has lifted all restrictions regarding the posting of corp member to Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to the Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), the news was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relation in the Ministry of Youth Development, Omolara Esan on Tuesday in Abuja.
Earlier on Monday, November 18, the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, issued a memo to the NYSC on lifting posting restrictions effective from the start of the 2024 Batch ‘C Orientation Course.
The ministerial directive, according to Olawande, is in line with President Tinubu’s mandate to ensure harmony among government ministries, agencies, and parastatals.
“President Tinubu is deeply troubled by the growing number of unemployed youths in Nigeria,” he stated.
“As a result, the President expects the Ministry and its agencies to play a pivotal role in resolving the issue.”
According to Olawande, the existing NYSC posting policy, introduced by former Minister Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, restricts postings to four key sectors which include Education, Agriculture, Health, and Infrastructure.
“The government’s funding of NYSC led to private organizations relying on cheap corps labor, reducing their incentive to employ full-time workers, according to Abdullahi,” he explained.
“To effectively address unemployment, we must revisit this policy and expand opportunities for corps members to serve in areas that align with their fields of study.”
“Notwithstanding the ongoing need for periodic reviews, I hereby issue the following directives, effective immediately the removal of all restrictions on postings.”
“Corps members shall be posted to organizations that align, wherever possible, with their academic disciplines.”
“Corps members will be posted to designated banks and other private sector entities, including those in the oil and gas industry, starting with Abuja and Lagos.”
The Minister announced the revocation of all previous posting restriction directives, taking effect from the start of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.
“This directive applies to all aspects of corps members’ posting and distribution to their primary places of assignment.”
