President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the National Assembly to increase the 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revailed that the proposed adjustment comes as the government cites additional revenue generated by key agencies to justify the increase.

The budget review is expected to cover various economic sectors, but concerns remain over how public funds will be utilized.

Reacting to the development, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi called for transparency and accountability in government spending.

Obi stressed that Nigerians deserve to know how the increased budget will be allocated and managed.

He emphasized that public expenditures should prioritize solving economic challenges and improving key sectors like healthcare and education.

According to Obi, government spending should focus on security, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation to improve citizens’ lives.

The former governor raised concerns about the effectiveness of past budget allocations in addressing national development.

Obi urged the government to provide a clear breakdown of how funds from the budget will be spent.

He insisted that Nigerians are still waiting for a detailed report on the execution of the 2024 budget.

The Renewed Hope budget, passed in December 2023, was meant to drive economic recovery and national development.

Obi questioned whether the funds from the previous budget were properly utilized for the country’s progress.

He warned that increasing the budget without clear accountability could lead to financial mismanagement.

As reported by Diaspora digital media (DDM), Obi called for responsible fiscal policies that reflect the needs of ordinary Nigerians.

He urged the government to ensure that resources are effectively managed to serve the nation’s best interests.

According to him, the increments should translate into real economic benefits for citizens, not unnecessary spending.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing projects that directly impact people’s welfare and national growth.

Obi reaffirmed that financial discipline is crucial in tackling Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.

He called on lawmakers and relevant agencies to ensure strict monitoring of government expenditures.

The former governor maintained that fiscal responsibility should be at the core of every budget decision.

As the National Assembly considers the proposal, Nigerians expect detailed explanations on fund allocations.

Obi’s stance reflects growing concerns about transparency in governance and financial accountability.

The debate over the increased budget highlights the need for effective economic policies and citizen-focused governance.
