One dead, five missing as boat capsizes off Florida coast

One person has died and five others are missing after a boat capsized near St. Lucie Inlet, Florida.
The Martin County Fire Rescue confirmed the incident in a statement shared on its official X handle (formerly twitter) on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Rescue officials revealed that the boat was located about 22 miles off Florida’s southeastern coastline.
Four people were found alive and pulled from the water during the rescue operation on Sunday.
A good Samaritan spotted the capsized vessel and alerted the United States Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard’s Seventh District said one of the rescued victims reported that the boat capsized on Friday.
Authorities said they began their rescue operation on Sunday, two days after the incident occurred.
All four rescued survivors were airlifted to Cleveland South Hospital in Stuart, Florida, for medical treatment.
Medical workers confirmed that one of the rescued victims sustained serious injuries.
The identities of the victims have not been released by authorities as of the time of this report.
The United States Coast Guard said it is still searching for the five missing persons.
