Only Tinubu’s close associates benefit from his so-called reforms — Rhodes Vivour

Labour Party 2023 Governorship Candidate Rhodes Vivour has Criticized Tinubu’s Economic Reforms. Saying it only favours Tinubu’s close associates.
Since President Bola Tinubu’s administration took office in May 2023, it has introduced a series of economic reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
These moves, aimed at stabilizing the country’s economy, have sparked significant debate.
While the government defends the policies as necessary for long-term economic recovery, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos election, argues that these reforms are causing widespread suffering among ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking on a national television program, Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the severe impact of these reforms on the masses. He stated,
“The people are experiencing unprecedented hardship. Today, over 70 percent of people’s income is spent on transportation and food. They haven’t even started to think about how they can afford accommodation”.
He criticized the government for fostering a culture of wastefulness and extravagance, which, according to him, does not align with the current economic realities. According to him,
“The only people benefiting from these reforms seem to be bankers, government officials, and the President’s close associates,”
“How many Nigerians can honestly say they are benefiting from any reform right now?”
Rhodes-Vivour’s comments reflect growing dissatisfaction with the economic measures implemented by Tinubu’s administration and the mounting pressure on the government to address the widening inequality.
