Owerri Zonal Chair, Nwadavid, Emerges Acting Chair of Labour Party

The Owerri Zonal Chairman, Chief Innocent Nwadavid has emerged the Acting Chairman of Labour Party in Imo state..
He emerged through a consensus arrangement by the State Working Committee SWC and State Executive Council SEC after an enlarged exco meeting on Saturday March 22nd 2025 in Owerri.
Chief Innocent Nwadavid while addressing newsmen said he emerged through a consensus arrangement .
“I emerged through a consensus arrangement of the State Working Committee and State Executive Council SEC”, he noted.
According to him, they gathered and gave him the appointment.
“They gathered and appointed me the Acting Chairman of Labour Party in Imo state”, he noted.
While explaining why the former chairman Barr Calistus Ihejiagwa was removed, he hinted that Ihejiagwa was undertaking Anti-Party activities.
” We accused the former labour party Chairman, Barr Ihejiagwa of Anti-Party activities but he failed to answer it.
Instead he went through the back and suspended the SWC which is unconstitutional.
You can not be a judge in your own matter.”
Hon Nwadavid said the real party faithful made a pronouncement nullifying everything the former chairman pronounced.
” Today the real party people have made their pronouncement that all the things Ihejiagwa did are null and void.”
He said he would recover all the properties of labour party from the former chairman through due process.
” I will follow the due process by making sure we officially communicate to him to return all the properties of labour party in his possession.
Where he fails, we can now involve the law enforcement agencies for total recovery.”
The new chairman said the former chairman has been in deep financial involvement with members of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.
He added that the APC members are paying Ihejiagwa salaries and other bills stressing that he who pays the piper dictates the tune..
Nwadavid accused Ihejiagwa of financial mismanagement and embezzlement.
” Also we embarked on revalidation exercise some months ago and raised some million’s of naira and at the end we advised him to remit some money to the LGA chairmen to enable them organize meetings as to keep the party alive at the grassroots.
He told us that he would first send to the national. On coming back to another meeting, he told us that he remitted the sum of six million naira #6M to the national.
We asked him to provide a receipt but he refused till today.”
The Labour Party Acting chairman pointed out that in one of their meetings, Barr Ihejiagwa confirmed to them that an APC stalwart was paying the secretariat staff which did not augur well with them.
Mr Nwadavid promised to unite labour party in Imo state.
” I have already started making a move to unite the party before my appointment.
I have organized zonal meetings where I reconciled aggrieved party members.
Today, we are in one canopy to sing the praises of labour party.
We recognize out two leaders, Barr Julius Abure the national chairman and His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi”, Nwadavid stated.
Corroborating the new chairman’s speech, the Local Government Chairman of Labour Party, Hon Lordis Mbamara from Isiala Mbano LGA said there was a change in leadership.
” There is a change of leadership in labour party.
The former state chairman, Barr Calistus Ihejiagwa was accused of high-handedness and financial misappropriation.
The SWC accused him of Anti-Party activities but instead of defending himself, he organized a meeting of LGA chairmen and secretaries urging them to support him.”
Hon Lordis Mbamara said by suspending those who passed vote of no confidence on him that is the SWC, means he indirectly accepted the allegations.
He said Ihejiagwa never refuted all the allegations against him rather he accepted the sponsorships under the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.
” The former State Chairman, Barr Calistus Ihejiagwa did not refure any allegation, he accepted the sponsorships under the leadership of APC, Mbamara stated.
