Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has recounted a disturbing story about an alleged fake movie casting arrangement that reportedly left dozens of aspiring actresses stranded.
According to Inojie, a personal assistant to a Nollywood producer allegedly gathered about 40 young women in a single room and kept them there for four days while promising that they would be given roles in a movie.
The actor shared the story while discussing some of the troubling experiences that aspiring actors and actresses can encounter while trying to break into the Nigerian film industry.
Inojie alleged that the women were repeatedly given excuses instead of being taken for the promised production.
The situation reportedly became tense when one of the women from Warri grew frustrated with the prolonged delay and broke a bottle.
It was allegedly after the confrontation that the woman discovered something shocking about the supposed movie project.
According to Inojie’s account, the script the PA had been holding was actually for a movie that had already been released in 1999.
The revelation allegedly exposed the casting arrangement as a deception, leaving the aspiring actresses questioning why they had been kept together for days under the promise of roles in a production that appeared not to be a new project.
The story has sparked conversations about the vulnerability of young people seeking opportunities in Nollywood and the need for aspiring actors to be cautious when responding to casting offers.
While the account was presented by Inojie as an example of what can happen in the industry, the specific details of the alleged incident could not be independently verified from the information available.
The story has nevertheless renewed calls for greater transparency in Nollywood casting and stronger safeguards for young actors seeking their first major opportunity.
