PDP Chairman resigns his position, gives reasons
DDM NEWS
Seun Adelore, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, has resigned from his position and withdrawn his membership from the party.
This decision was announced in a resignation letter dated July 7, 2025, citing deep-seated internal issues and a departure from the party’s founding values.
Adelore’s resignation stems from several factors, including lack of Internal Democracy.
Adelore alleges that the party has abandoned democratic ideals and is being run like a private enterprise controlled by select factions.
He cites entrenched injustice, consistent failure to reward loyalty, and a steady drift away from democratic norms within the PDP in Oyo State.
Adelore accuses the current leadership of operating with increasing authoritarianism, eroding the democratic principles on which the PDP was founded.
Adelore’s exit could have significant implications, especially within Ibadan North and the larger PDP structure in the state.
As a known ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, his resignation may impact the party’s dynamics in the region.
The state chapter of the PDP has not issued an official response to Adelore’s resignation, but political observers believe his departure could be substantial.
In his resignation letter, Adelore expressed profound dissatisfaction with the party’s current state, stating, “I write to formally tender my resignation as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ibadan North Local Government, effective July 7, 2025. I also hereby withdraw my membership from the party.” He has vowed to resist any attempts at intimidation or threats resulting from his decision.
Adelore’s resignation comes amid a crucial period for the PDP in Oyo State, particularly with upcoming elections.
His departure highlights the internal challenges facing the party and raises questions about its future direction ⁴.
DDM News gathered from a report that on Monday, July 7, 2025, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Seun Adelore, has resigned both his position and membership from the party, citing deepening injustice and internal manipulation.
Adelore, a known loyalist of Governor Seyi Makinde, made his decision public in a letter dated July 7, 2025.
His resignation letter read, “I write to formally tender my resignation as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ibadan North Local Government, effective July 7, 2025.”
Adelore expressed dismay over what he called the hijacking of the party by a few factions, describing the PDP’s operations in Oyo State as resembling a private business rather than a democratic institution.
He accused party leaders of sidelining loyal members, abandoning merit, and imposing candidates in a manner that undermines internal democracy.
Party insiders linked his resignation to the selection of Folajimi Oyekunle, Governor Makinde’s Deputy Chief of Staff, as the consensus candidate for the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election.
The selection reportedly emerged after a closed-door meeting with the governor and several aspirants, many of whom were said to have been persuaded to step down in favor of Oyekunle.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of APC lawmaker Olaide Akinremi, who passed away in July 2024 at age 51.
In his letter, Adelore said, “The PDP in this state is increasingly being run like a private enterprise by select factions, undermining the collective spirit and transparency that should define party politics.”
He lamented the erosion of values, growing intolerance, and a lack of reward for loyalty within the party.
Emphasizing his commitment to personal integrity, Adelore stated that his resignation came after wide consultation with his political supporters.
