PDP Highlights Need for Coalition to Challenge APC in 2027 Presidential Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emphasized the importance of a genuine coalition to effectively challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The call for a coalition was made by PDP’s 2023 Presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria.
Expressing concerns about the country leaning towards a one-party state under the APC, Atiku warned of potential consequences for Nigeria’s democracy and future generations. PDP’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, echoed Atiku’s sentiments, stating in an exclusive interview that a coalition was necessary to protect the nation’s future.
Abdullahi alleged that the APC had impoverished Nigerians, emphasizing that only a genuine coalition of opposition parties could effectively challenge the administration led by President Bola Tinubu. He stressed, “We believe only a merger or coming together of all opposition political parties will produce a better result.”
The Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, Timothy Osadolor, emphasized the difficulty of dislodging the ruling party without a unified approach. Osadolor highlighted the need for opposition parties to synergize with the people to achieve their objectives.
Amidst the changing political landscape, the PDP consistently urges for a unified front to oppose the APC, asserting that individual endeavors would be insufficient in effectively challenging the policies and practices of the current administration.
