A devastating family shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, has left eight people dead, including a pregnant woman and two young children, after a 45-year-old gunman allegedly killed his relatives before taking his own life.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026, at a home on Perry Street. According to police, seven of the victims were related to the suspected gunman, while the eighth was a family friend. The shooter was also found dead, bringing the total number of deaths to nine.
Among the victims were a five-year-old boy, a girl aged approximately one year and 10 months, and a 24-year-old woman who was about eight months pregnant. The unborn child also died. Other victims included three adults aged 19, 21 and 44, as well as two women found outside the residence.
Family members and social media reports have identified the suspected gunman as Matthew Stone and the pregnant woman as Angelina Stone. However, police had not publicly confirmed the suspect’s name in their initial briefings.
Investigators said surveillance footage showed two women arriving at the home shortly after gunshots were heard. The women appeared distressed and were reportedly seeking help before the gunman came outside and shot them.
Police later entered the residence and discovered the remaining victims. The suspected gunman had died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a .40-caliber handgun registered to him was recovered at the scene.
Authorities have not established a motive for the killings. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the scene as one of the most disturbing of his career, while investigators continued examining evidence and interviewing people connected to the family.
The tragedy has devastated the community, particularly because young children and an unborn baby were among those who lost their lives. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
