A group known as Polling Unit To Collation Center Movement, PUTCCM, has issued a strong and controversial warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and other political stakeholders ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, declaring that Nigerians will not accept any attempt to manipulate the outcome of their votes. Speaking in Kano State, the group stressed that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to vote for any candidate of their choice without intimidation, coercion or interference. It warned electoral officials against taking actions that could undermine the will of the electorate, insisting that the 2027 elections must not follow the pattern of the disputed electoral experiences of 2023. In a particularly alarming statement, the group reportedly declared, “If you rig our votes, we will kill you,” sending a chilling message to those it believes may attempt to manipulate the electoral process. PUTCCM also described vote rigging as a treasonable offence and urged Nigerians to come out in large numbers, cast their ballots and defend their votes. The group further reacted to comments by Mr Segun Showunmi concerning the announcement of election results, while calling on all political parties, electoral officials and other stakeholders to respect the people's mandate and avoid actions capable of triggering tension ahead of the polls. PUTCCM also cautioned Nigerian youths against participating in electoral malpractice, urging them to reject vote buying, ballot manipulation and other forms of electoral misconduct. It called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and committed to protecting voters and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. With political activities expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the group's statement has drawn attention to growing concerns over electoral credibility, the protection of voters' rights and the need for a transparent and credible election. What do you think about PUTCCM's warning to INEC and other political stakeholders?
