Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on Wednesday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as political consultations ahead of the 2027 general election continue.
Photos of the meeting were shared by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, on X, although neither the venue nor details of their discussion were disclosed.
The meeting comes just days after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused Obasanjo of fabricating allegations against him to favour his “kinsman” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku did not mention anyone by name, but the allegation was widely linked to President Bola Tinubu, who, like Obasanjo, is of Yoruba extraction.
Earlier this year, Obasanjo alleged that Atiku gave the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, ₦5 million to initiate impeachment proceedings against him during his first term in office.
The claim sparked a fresh exchange of accusations between the two longtime political rivals.
