The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, on Thursday arrived in Bauchi State for a meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.
Obi, a key figure in the opposition coalition arrived earlier in the day for the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House.
What they discussed hasn’t been made public yet, as both men kept things private. However, sources within the Government House say the talks could be linked to ongoing political realignments and early positioning ahead of future elections.
There are expectations that both leaders will speak to journalists once the meeting wraps up.
The meeting comes at a time when Mohammed’s political direction has drawn attention. The governor, who heads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, had previously indicated interest in moving to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). But shortly after, he hosted top figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting he may still be weighing his options.
For now, all eyes are on what comes out of this meeting and whether it signals a new political alliance taking shape.
