YENAGOA, NIGERIA — A tragic boat accident has claimed the lives of three children along the Ikeinghenbiri–Ikebiri creek in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, raising fresh concerns over waterway safety in the region.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., when a wooden passenger boat travelling from Azuzuama to Yenagoa capsized mid-journey under unclear circumstances.
