Over 40 civilians have been killed after terrorists attacked Zike community, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The unfortunate attack was confirmed by Wakili Tongwe, a community leader from Kwall.
He said the armed rogues stormed the village in the wee hours of Monday, opening fire indiscriminately on innocent civilians who were jolted from sleep.
Speaking to Channels Television via telephone, Tongwe revealed that a group of local vigilantes, including himself and some security operatives, had been on patrol in a nearby community when the attackers struck.
Security personnel engaged the criminals and succeeded in repelling them.
Though, the damage had been done, with about thirty-six persons shot dead and four others dying later.
He said some other residents who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
Security agencies in the state are yet to comment on the attack, which is coming in less than two weeks after fifty-two persons were killed in some communities of the Bokkos LGA.
