The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a prominent lawyer, Mr. Naantoe Haamnaan (Esq), and one other individual in Jos.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the tragic incident occurred on June 11, 2025, in the early hours of the morning near Elim Top Hotel Junction, a location just a few meters away from the late lawyer’s residence.
According to eyewitness accounts and police sources, Mr. Haamnaan and another passenger were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by a speeding vehicle.
The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately, abandoning the victims without assistance.
Mr. Haamnaan, a well-known legal practitioner in the state, died instantly as a result of the impact.
His companion was rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he battled for survival but eventually passed away two days later due to the severity of his injuries.
The hit-and-run case sent shockwaves through the legal and civic community in Plateau State, prompting a swift and thorough police investigation.
Authorities say they used forensic tracking, local intelligence, and CCTV footage from nearby properties to identify and trace the suspect.
Following days of investigation, the suspect was eventually apprehended and is currently in police custody at Anglo-Jos Police Station.
