Police Launch Probe Into Death of Federal Medical Centre Worker in Umuahia

Authorities in Abia State have commenced an investigation following the discovery of the body of a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia.

The deceased, identified as Ikenna Onuoha, was a junior employee at the facility. His body was reportedly found along a bush path in the Amaeke-Isiadu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area.

According to reports, the discovery was made at night, sending shockwaves through his family, colleagues, and associates, who described him as a friendly and committed worker.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that initial findings suggest the possibility of suicide, although a full investigation is still underway.

Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said officers were alerted to the situation and promptly visited the scene to carry out preliminary assessments and documentation.

She noted that there were no visible signs of physical injury on the body. The remains have since been moved to a morgue for preservation and further examination, including an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Chinaka added that while early indications point to suspected suicide, investigators are continuing their inquiries and assured that the public will be informed once the process is concluded.
