Police authorities have reportedly arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, the man identified as the originator of an AI-generated voice note attributed to President Bola Tinubu.
The arrest was disclosed by the spokesman of the President, Chief Bayo Onanuga on Thursday in a post on his official X handle.
“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice,” he said.
Sources familiar with the investigation said a technology expert assisting authorities traced the origin of the audio recording, which circulated widely and purported to contain the president’s voice.
Dennis, this medium understand, was arrested in Benin.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the full extent of the alleged operation and how widely the recording was disseminated.
Police sources said an official statement on the arrest and the ongoing investigation is expected.
