Police Reforms: Egbetokun Focuses on upholding Police conduct standards
Abuja, February 10, 2025– Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed his commitment to operational integrity.
During a virtual meeting, he engaged senior police managers nationwide, addressing critical issues that reinforce ethical standards and effective management practices.
Moreover, the IGP issued a strong warning against human rights violations by police officers.
He emphasized the Force’s duty to respect and protect these rights consistently.
Additionally, he expressed serious concerns regarding reports of human rights abuses received through official complaint channels.
The IGP declared that any officer guilty of such violations would face severe disciplinary actions.
Furthermore, the IGP cautioned all tactical squads against misuse of power and improper dressing while on duty.
He emphasized that operatives must adhere strictly to the approved dress code by wearing their designated uniforms.
Specifically, he prohibited officers from carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti), highlighting that such practices contravene standard operating procedures and could lead to public misperception.
In addition, the IGP addressed the issue of indiscriminate case transfers, which often result in unnecessary delays and burdens for affected parties.
He mandated that no case should be transferred without his written approval, ensuring that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
This directive aims to streamline case management processes and uphold fairness within the judicial system.
The IGP concluded the meeting by urging all ranks within the Force to work collaboratively in preventing actions that could tarnish the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
He reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance policy for misconduct and called on officers to remain professional, disciplined, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to prioritize reforms that enhance accountability and foster public confidence in its operations.
