Police Service Commission calls for paradigm shift in Registry Management
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in registry management in the public service, stressing the importance of deploying personnel with proven integrity to safeguard its sanctity and credibility.
At the third edition of the PSC’s ‘Arena of Knowledge’ lecture series, held on July 24, 2024, in Abuja, speakers highlighted the essential functions of office registry and attributes of registry personnel.
They also discussed offenses related to registry records and consequences of violations.
Director Ponfa Wuyep and Special Adviser CP Chika Maidamma presented lectures, recommending that personnel with integrity, capacity, and knowledge be deployed to manage registry units.
Wuyep noted, “Consideration should be given to the integrity, capacity, and knowledge of the personnel.”
“Personnel of the Registry should guard against easy access to the Unit offices, especially confidential or secret Registry.”
Maidamma emphasized the importance of transparency, integrity, and fairness in registry management, stating, “Registry personnel should exhibit prompt obedience to lawful orders, strict regard to the correctness of their general behavior, and the ability to resist temptation to abuse of office.”
PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu commended staff for their commitment to the lecture series, noting that it would enhance their service delivery and excellence in the public service.
He pledged to improve working conditions for staff, saying, “These lectures are valuable resources for career development… I will see to the improvement of the working conditions of the staff.”
The lecture series aims to promote knowledge sharing and career development among PSC staff, with a focus on best practices in registry management.
As the nation battles poor registry management, the PSC’s call for a paradigm shift underscores the need for integrity and accountability in the public service.
