The Police Service Commission (PSC) in Nigeria has taken disciplinary action against 29 police officers, dismissing two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) and demoting six others.

The six demoted officers include two Superintendents of Police who were reduced to Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent who was reduced to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents who were reduced to Inspectors.

Furthermore, the Commission approved severe reprimands for ten senior police officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and conduct unbecoming of senior police officers.

Nine other senior officers received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated.

A letter of warning was also served on an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The Commission also approved promotions for several senior police officers, including 11 Commissioners of Police who were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police who were promoted to Commissioners, 21 Assistant Commissioners who were promoted to Deputy Commissioners, 57 Chief Superintendents who were promoted to Assistant Commissioners, and 1348 Superintendents who were promoted to Chief Superintendents.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu, emphasized the importance of discipline in the police force, stating that officers must be held to high standards to effectively enforce the law and protect lives and property.

The Commission has pledged to promptly address pending disciplinary matters to prevent innocent officers from being unduly stagnated.
